i never understood the talk about this, most people especially in tv always say that playing the away game first in an advantage, you think its the other around

for me neither is true, the first game always sets the tone for second no matter where it is

i still remember people saying in our treble season "oh god you got the 2nd leg in camp nou" and then we destroyed them 4:0 at home

its kinda situational: massive homefield advantage can pull you through from the abyss in the 2nd game if its homeleg (see Barca last year, United vs Olympiakos (lol) during Moyes campaign etc.)

Although im in favor of setting the tone in the home leg first - nicking a 1-0 or a solid 2-0, 3-1 etc is a huge way to put the pressure on where like you said, away goals are so much more devastating in the 2nd leg as they can almost count as 2x depending on the situation
