We haven't played one game in preseason with 3 defenders. And Tbh we might play with 2 up top, Costa will be the main man unless he get's injured.

Batman has looked pretty good tho, I think he will do good this year (If he gets gametime). Which is likely

I don't think Chelsea really has a proper squad for the 3-5-2 anyways

The 3-5-2 is a poverty formation, it wasn't brought to Juventus by Conte out of desire but rather out of suitability

We had 3 good central defenders, a bunch of central midfielders and not much of anything else. Conte is actually known for a super attacking 4-4-2 (4-2-4) and this was his reputation prior to joining Juventus

The 3-5-2 is an incredibly hardworking formation and it suited both Juventus and Italy for the time he spent there

yeah I agree, Although a lot of us Chelsea fans aren't keen on a 4-2-4, we prefer if he was to play 4-3-3

I trust him tho

For the start of the season if we don't buy any defenders I wish we would have kept kalas +ake and started like tho:
Ake-Kalas-Terry-Azpi

Don't worry, he didn't play that formation with Juventus even once, he may have tried it in pre-season a couple times, I can't remember. He's somewhat flexible, but he will try to find the formation that suits the player he has and then stick with it.

The 4-3-3 was used for a very small handful of games prior to the 3-5-2 once it was found that Marchisio-Pirlo-Vidal was an incredible midfield to have -> the rest fell into place afterwards.

I still think a defender will come and hopefully it's Koulibaly, he's fantastic

most important position in the 3 5 2 are the wing backs
very few teams have the right guys for that and chelsea is not one of them imo

Yes and no, we played like three seasons with Asamoah and Lichtsteiner as our wingbacks

Asamoah is really a CM and Lichtsteiner is a good player but the strength of the team was clearly in the middle of the field

Finding three quality central defenders can be more difficult I think

Although now Juventus is actually perfectly set up for it, and it leaves me torn because I still don't like the 3-5-2

dont like it either, the flanks are too weak for my taste
and since most teams have only 1 clear center forward i feel like you are wasting one body at the back

That's my issue with it as well... especially against those pesky smaller teams, you're basically a man down in attack

However, now we have Dani Alves and Alex Sandro and I can't wait to see it

It'll take like 2 games before Pep realizes Silva NEEDS to be played as a 2nd CM next to De Bruyne / in front of one single CDM (which will be either Fernando or Fernandinho) who can sweep.
Silva is probably the most intelligent City player and he can become Pep's new Iniesta or Thiago, possibly much better even than the latter.

But even as a winger, Silva is lightyears ahead of any competition, namely Nolito, Sané, Sterling, Navas and that new Brazilian guy :)
