Well, for anybody that cares, the current local rumor is that it is all a publicity stunt organized by Messi's father (who represents him and whatnot).

very interesting and really a shame it is like that to be honest. that being said, if this was the REAL reason for messi's "retirement", i'm sure he would have found a way to voice his discontent internationally and put some pressure on the federation. i mean, as far as i can tell, he DOES have a massive influence on argentinian football: tata martino as a manager? tevez basically banned from the national team? pretty sure that's all messi's doing.

also, while i DO agree that this has to be changed, i'm sure guys like alexis sanchez and arturo vidal would gladly play for their country even if they weren't payed at all for it. if messi's goal was to leverage change, he could have just threatened not to play for argentina anymore if things didn't change...

well because they're not nearly the money grubbing type as messi who refuses to pay taxes then claims stupidity to get out of it

Although messi is a top player. his attitude is terrible on and off the pitch. Argentina would be better without him IMO.

Even if he had perfect attitude on/off the pitch Mardonna>>>>Messi

I will say it again. Messi will only be considered the best player Barcelona ever had and that's it. Enjoy Barca fans.

Because the best club in the world put all their eggs in the Lionel Messi basket, and the Argentinian wonderboy is vastly overrated.

So because Maradona played 1.5 season at Barcelona, that makes him the best players they ever had?

Best player they ever had was Ronaldo. There is no discussion possible on that matter.
