very interesting and really a shame it is like that to be honest. that being said, if this was the REAL reason for messi's "retirement", i'm sure he would have found a way to voice his discontent internationally and put some pressure on the federation. i mean, as far as i can tell, he DOES have a massive influence on argentinian football: tata martino as a manager? tevez basically banned from the national team? pretty sure that's all messi's doing.
also, while i DO agree that this has to be changed, i'm sure guys like alexis sanchez and arturo vidal would gladly play for their country even if they weren't payed at all for it. if messi's goal was to leverage change, he could have just threatened not to play for argentina anymore if things didn't change...
well because they're not nearly the money grubbing type as messi who refuses to pay taxes then claims stupidity to get out of it
