Ozil has been really good this season,but cesc is still a better passer.

Özil has possibly the best vision and passing that any player can have. Cesc is a great passer but he's better at infiltrating and scoring goals.

Cesc is far from consistent tho.

Messis left foot makes much better passes than anyone else

Cesc is having better successful passes % and also have made way more passes per game even in the mediocre season he's having. It's good to mention also that Ozil is pure AMC and Cesc is a bit out of position even played some games as DMC this season, and when you add the overall Arsenal & Chelsea team performance this season you will see why Ozil is having a lot more assists than Cesc this season.

You cannot really compare them.

Cesc may have more successful passes and even more passes per game, but he is playing - as you said yourself - more defensively, i.e. not taking too many risky passes.
Özil as an attacking midfielder, whose job it is to take more risky passes in order to create chances... ofc this is reflected by a higher number of incomplete passes...

Can't argue with Özil'S statistics though. Didn't matter whether his teams had good or bad seasons... he's been the player creating most chances per game/season for years now, throughout all of Europe's leagues.
