Hm...I beg to differ, they way the win games is different. I think Ronaldo led Argentina wouldve beaten Germany, but obviously that's all if/buts.

Yes it should. As the most prestigious tournament in the world, the best player of all time should have this trophy in their shelf. Like was said before, Maradonna carried Argentina to Mexico '86 World Cup. Not only that, he went to a 2nd division team in Italy and took that team to their first Scudetto. Messi will never be respected in the sense that he never went to look for competition outside of Spain where the trophy was gifted to either Real Madrid or Barcelona. Not too much of a competition right? For one to think that Messi should be considered the best of all time is asinine. He stay's comfortable in a top team with a almost 50% chance to always win most of the major trophies. Dro pls.

I see where you are coming from but I disagree

You don't need to be a world cup winner to be the best player of all time. At least in my opinion you don't.

Why define a 10+ years professional career in 1 tournament?
It just doesn't make sense to me.

and for the record I doubt Ronaldo could have won the world cup for Argentina if he was there instead of Messi

It's not 1 tournament, it's multiple at this stage, and multiple copa America tournaments, all of which he flopped in

Very easy to look like the best player in the world when surrounded by world class talent.

I wouldn't need Messi to win the WC to consider him the best ever; I'd just need him to excell with Argentina in a big tournament. Just in the same way Cruyff is considered a top 5 of all time in almost every list because he had a great run helping the Oranje reach a WC final (which they lost).

If Messi had excelled in last year's WC (and i don't mean scoring vs farmer countries in the group stage and first ko round), then I'd consider him a candidate for all time best (even with the lost final against Germany).

Right now he has only excelled in one amazing team and one system. He's definetely an immense player, but not worthy of being top 5 material imo.

World cup is to determine which country is the best in the world, not who the best player in the world is.

Look at Germany, they are the best country in the world but do not posses the best player in the world.

No but for instance Maradonna did win with an inferior squad. And to say that it isn't possible with this Argentina and Messi... That's bullshit too. They made the final and that maskes how truely bad they were.
