1. True. That left a big hole in the squad.
2. That is shit excuse, United and Chelsea have been doing it for the past 10 years, you mean playing twice is tough on liverfool? shows how weak they are then.
3. Transfer policy for the past 10 years for liverfool is shit except for a few signings like Suarez , Torres and Xabi Alonso, everything else is fucked up. Why? You are owned by Yanks and your managers are all sub standard.
4. That is a pathetic excuse, if losing the title in that fashion breaks the team down, it really show how weak mentally the whole team is.

Chelsea and United have way more squad depth than liverpool ...

Not to mention the experience. Liverpool hadn't played in the CL for a while now so this definatly delivered more pressure and stress on the players bodys.

What I meant with points 2 and 4 was that last season they could overperform due to circumstances that are no longer there.

I really think liverpool bought too many players with potential instead of players who are on the top of their game already.

i think their transfers overall have been mediocre but the problem that presents itself in replacing players like suarez is - and this should not be taken as offense by liverpool fans - they don't get to pick amongst the best of the best. it's the same problem dortmund has...

right now only chelsea, city, barcelona, real madrid and bayern (and maybe united again soon) are in a situation that they can really choose to sign those top players because they have the money and the prestige...
clubs like arsenal, liverpool, dortmund or atletico are only 2nd tier in that regard. so unless you are able to sign a great talent and develop him into a top player quickly, it is a difficult task to replace a player like suarez...

that being said, the topic title "where has it all gone wrong?" suggests that being 5th currently is so bad while i think of it like that's realistically a place where they belong atm. somewhere between 3rd and 6th, last year was the exception imo...
so if you say "where has it all gone wrong?" and think of their title winning years you'll have to go what? like 25 years back? and a lot happened since then...

They were 2nd last season, got a lot of money from Suarez and had the opportunity to invest the money effectively and consolidate their position in the top 4. So in a sense it did go wrong. I can see your point though
