no one says "die mannschaft" in germany. that just translates to "the team".
we say "die nationalmannschaft" or "die nationalelf" or "die dfb elf" or "das nationalteam".

no offense, just thought i let you know because i've read "die mannschaft" quite frequently the last couple of months...

I frequently hear people calling the German national team as 'Die Mannschaft".

E.g.: Die Mannschaft wins the world cup.

Can't wait to watch. Cut out the disgraceful diving and antics and it is the most entertaining match around.

Well when you say Die Mannschaft, who do you think they are referring to? The French? The Spanish? ;)

Norwegian papers say it too when you're talking about the German football team.

I never really thought that Germans just call their team 'The team'. Its what other countries call the German team, not the Germans themselves..

wow, clearly that was not my point. it's obvious which team they mean if they say "die mannschaft" but it sounds like they think we germans call our national team that, i mean why would they use a german term? and that's all i wanted to clarify...
