People forget that Maradona wasn't a prolific goalscorer.His mission wasn't to score and yet he averaged 1 goal every two games while playing in Europe (his goal goal scoring stats were even better before he left Argentina), and became top scorer in the defensive Serie A.
Sure, he wasn't averaging a goal per game like Messi or CR7, but that's a pretty good goal scoring stat... and when you consider that he wasn't a striker, he played with average team mates, he played in one of the most competitive leagues in the history of football and he played most of his carreer in defensive teams and against defensive teams.... his goal scoring record is great.
You don't need to be an insane goal scoring machine to be among the best... Zidane, Platini and Cruyff were no doubt among the very best and they weren't ultraprolific goal scorers either.
