Same, I'm actually watching it now

Was a good stand-up comedian.
Then went into acting and made a couple of bad-mediocre movies. Sucks at acting.
Then went back to stand-up, but was never as good as before acting.

Well, in general, his best performances were portrayals of a specific type of character he portrayed in many movies. I wouldn't label him as "very one-dimensional" like Tredecim did, but I agree with him that Robin Williams rarely seemed to feel comfortable in roles that were out of his standard character.

Also the fact that he was in sooooo many movies, the majority of which were garbage (specially over the last 15 years or so), doesn't help his case either.

That's why I considered him a good actor, but not among the best. I also have to say though, that there aren't many actors I label as top tier.

The majority of films that most actors have been in are bad, they are famous and critically acclaimed from only a few films at best. He was a top tier actor in the 90's. One dimensional actors like Clint Eastwood and Al Pacino are top tier so Tredecim's point is irrelevant in addition to it being wrong

No matter how iconic some of the characters he portrayed have become, I don't think anyone seriously rates Clint Eastwood as a top tier actor.

He's easily a top tier director though.

WHAT!?! He is one of the most famous and accomplished actors of all time

Everyone knows who Chaplin and Groucho Marx were, both of them are among the most famous actors of all time and portrayed memorable and heavily influential characters (which they even designed themself), yet I doubt anyone would dare list them in a top 10 of all time actors.
