Indeed. And I give Rome a close second place. Their empire was relatively tiny (5.5 million km²) compared to more modern empires, but they were technologically, centuries ahead of their rivals and have influenced almost as much as Britain has.

This. Britain was so dominant that its culture echoes everywhere. Sure, Americans have stuff like baseball and think they are so much different but they are bad copies of our sports. All their damn holidays revolve around Britain for God's sake
