Around May-June I talked about Serra Ferrer (owner of 49% of RCD Mallorca) and Cerdà (owner of 6% of the club), having apparently reached an agreement to sell their shares to an investment group that belonged to Abramovich.
Last month I talked about how this wasn't happening because Cerdá decided he wanted more money and broke his agreement with the group, and how he was now governing the club along with Utz Claasen (owner of the remaining 45%).
Well, yesterday, when everyone thought this was over, the agreement with the investment group was made official. Dudu Aouate, our iconic keeper that retired this year, was named as general manager today. He's has been studying to become director of football over the last 2 years, and he's the one that found the buyers (he's apparently a very good friend of Abramovich). It's uncertain if he's going to become the official owner of the club or not, but he will be the one in charge from now on.
However the club isn't sold yet because an audit has to be carried out before the shares are transfered. The reason Aouate has already been appointed as general manager though is because the new owners want to invest some money into the club and make some transfers before the summer window closes.
This is positive news, but it's a bit bittersweet.
It's good that we're going to have a change in ownership and there will finally be stabitlity in the club, but the idea of being controlled by an investment group that is dedicated to third party ownerships of football players, is scary. We might get some good players, but we might also get garbage ones that the investment group will want to send to a club in a strong league like La Liga in case he does well and draws attention.
It's good that the new owners are going to pump in money, but it's a bit late to change things. The season starts in 2 weeks, and the team is already built. Apparently Aouate wants a different manager (which is understandable given that Soler relegated the B team twice), and 3 or 4 quality signings. It might also mean the departure of our sports director, club legend Nadal, which has been doing a good job throughout the transfer window. It would be sad if he left.
Let's hope it's all for the best... I guess there will be a lot of changes over the next few weeks.
Sounds like its a change that is worth taking the risk for, let's see how it progresses
