sometimes it's just bad luck you get a horrible injury from a relatively harmless tackle, sometimes you get away without any injury from a horrible tackle although the player was just trying to hurt his opponent...
It depends on the player aswell. If he is rough, well built and determined and gets stuck in rough contacts, this can happen. That determination can lead to making a difference or ending your career. Didn't really see the challenge live to see if shaw could have anticipated the tackle and jump over, i just think it was just unlucky to be caught with foot on ground. In that situation even a lighter tackle could have broken his leg.
You can break your backbone when you jump for a header and land wrong. That doesn't mean your opponent should get a red.
