Last year, when everyoone expected a mid-low table finish from them, they almost promoted to Primera for the first time in their history. This summer, their manager and a few of their players left. That, and the dissapointment caused by not promoting to Primera after being so close, seems to be affecting them this season. They are currently in the relegation zone and they're not looking good.

Eibar was, before the 80s, a 3rd level team. However, over the last 30 years they've played in Segunda most of the time and usually with a mid table finish (they even set the record of consecutive seasons in Segunda, spending 18 years without promoting to Primera or being relegated back to the 3rd level). Ironically this streak ended when they relegated in 2006, just one year after finishing 2 points away from what would have been their first ever promotion to Primera.

After that relegation they've been shifting between the second and third level, and they actually promoted this summer for the last time. People were expecting them to struggle this season, but they've been very solid so far. They are currently 4th!

This is really a huge surprise. One year ago they were celebrating their promotion to Segunda and now they are in Primera with 2 games to go. With a very low budget, everyone expected them to struggle in a fight to avoid relegation, but they've had an insane season and they'll become the 60th team to ever play in Primera.

Las Palmas, like Mallorca, is historically a team from the lower end of Primera (although we've been more succesful in terms of titles and european runs; and they've spent much more time in Segunda than in Primera during the past 3 decades). After their last relegation from Primera, in 2002, the club crumbled and soon relegated again, this time to the 3rd level, for the 2nd time in their history. From there they've slowly progressed over the years and are now back where they should be, fighting for promotion.

I don't think they'll promote this year though. Right now they are 5th, in playoff positions, and I think they'll finish the season there, but I don't think the team is prepared to win the playoffs yet. Could be different next year though.

With only 2 games to go they are third placed (and 6 points behnd the second placed so direct promotion is pretty much impossible for them). However, their playoff position is far from being secured since they 7th and 8th placed are only one point away, and the 9th and 10th are just 2 behind!

So both Mallorca and Las Palmas desperately need to win today. Hope my boys can finally perform today, otherwise relegation will be pretty much sealed considering our last game is very complicated and the other teams that are down there with us will face teams that have nothing to fight for.
