Paris Saint Germain have called a news conference for 5.30 this evening - at which they're expected to announce the signing of Angel Di Maria from Manchester United.

Di Maria has passed a medical - which he took at a medical centre in Doha. Manchester United's British record signing will cost the French giants £44m. It should prove interesting to hear Di Maria’s reasons for leaving the Premier League.

Interesting indeed..

Ruud Gullit: ...I am surprised they have not strengthened their defence more already - I don't get it. Louis van Gaal did the same last year, when he brought in a lot of forward players. If building a squad is like building a house, he started with the roof instead of the foundations and it did not go well. This year, he has done the same again. It surprises me that he has confidence in his existing players at the back.

I pretty much agree with this, I wouldn't be confident in Smalling Rojo Jones and Evans as defenders in a title charge. I guess Van Gaal is going for a possession style of play, so for example Blind as CB could work, but still I just don't get it.

Blind at CB wouldn't work I think, not physical enough to be a class CB in the premier league

Idk, van Gaal isn't often wrong about players. For example last oranje squad. I figured he would figure out a way to get through the group but the semi's no one expected that. He might set it up well enough that it will work.

furthermore he also stated that he needed more players, so idk what will happen.

Neither do I tbf. All the successful BPL teams in the league have at least 1 stalwart cb. Really need someone physical who is good in the air and can keep the shape of the back line. Right now, i dont see anyone doing that.

And even if theyre going to play possession style football, it will suffer against the counter attacking teams. We would lose vs arsenal, stoke, etc.

The defense is fine, easily at least on par with Chelsea's.

David De Gea: Man Utd keeper to sit out Tottenham match

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will not play against Tottenham on Saturday as he continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Speculation over the future of the 24-year-old, who reportedly wants to move to Real, has persisted all summer.
"I think about the human being more than the player and I don't think he can handle that," said Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.
New signing Sergio Romero is likely to start the Premier League season-opener.
