Yes most of people don't realize it mate. I doubt there is even one supporter in this forum that even have a defender for his favorite football payer. Everyone would say to you Ronaldo, Messi, Hazard etc. This happens cause the kids only enjoy when some of those score a goal or do some trick(even if its useless), no one sees a great tackle, good positioning, marking your opponent(ask Messi who haven't scored against us in 7 occasions). There is as much beauty in defensive part of the game as the attacking especially if you do it well. I love watching a well disciplined side defending well especially if this is in a game against a better opponent.Anyway i can't agree with you about the Atletico example, we didn't even put an effort to block them cause they wasn't even sharp in their attacks. Simeone is close to Mourinho about his managing style and he had something in mind for their defence too uneasy of our counters. I bet his fellow Atletico side would be way more defensive at Stamford Bridge than we was in Vicente Calderon.



Also one thing. We've had 31% possesion with 4-5 shots and same amount of corners against Atletico away, they said we parked the bus.Last night Real had 25% possesion 4 shots and 3 corners against Bayern at their home, and everyone cheer them after the game saying they played amazing. The art of defence was the cattenacio, the italians used to master it 2-3 decades ago. It was all about the positioning, the man/not zonal marking, about having sweepers and shitloads of other things. It was an art really. Football was not beautiful indeed, but it was football nonetheless. There were loads of players who became idols, remember nesta ? He was world class ever since lazio. Cannavaro ? Rock solid since early Parma days. Won`t go further in the past to mention the likes of beckenbauer and baresi. They were idols indeed.

Problem is mourinho does not display tactical genius or any "defensive" playstile. He just goes 2 x dmc and park the bus, dropping the midfield deep and basically having 9 defenders. Its impossible to cross 2 well packed lines. But that, my friend, is not football.
