Very nice performance indeed. The players seemed really comfortable and enjoying themselves too.

Couldn't watch second half, was Thibaut tested?

Not really. I think there was one header that went goalwards, but he didn't have to make a save, and Leganes had like 2 shots which were easily saved by Thibaut.

If we only looked at stats then only offensive players would win these awards. And that's usually what happens, unfortunately... so it's nice to see a change for once.

Cristiano could have very well won the award too, but there's no way that Modric doesn't deserve it either. They've won the same stuff at club level, but Luka had a far better WC (despite Cristiano having some strong individual performances in the group stage games too).

As I've been saying for years, Cristiano may be (or now, may have been) Madrid's most decisive player, but the true key player has always been Modric... we're always crap when he's not around. So I'm personally really happy about him getting some recognition for once, even though I'd have also been happy if Cristiano had won it.

So how would you split your vote between the two?

I don't really care about individual awards tbh, I'm just happy to see certain players get recognition. In that sense, I'd have likely voted for Modric if it had been up to me, since he deserves more credit than what he gets and this is the optimal year for him to get recognition. It's the reason why I liked the old Ballon d'Or, because players like Owen or Nedved could win it while Zidane and Ronaldo where in their prime... the award was more accessible to players who excelled in a particular season, and it was pretty much unthinkable for any player, no mater how much of a big name he was, to win it more than twice. There was more of a philosophy of "if two players deserve it, give it to the one who hasn't won it yet, so he also gets some recognition". In any case, both Cristiano and Modric are very good options, and I feel like they both deserve these year's individual awards in one way or the other.
