I don't know who suggested his signing, but Keylor was definitely not an unknown keeper we signed him. He had two amazing seasons with Levante and then had a great WC with Costa Rica. He had been linked to Atlético for a long time as a replacement for Courtois, but we were faster and then they went for Oblak, so I guess it was a win for everyone
MARCA is the largest and most important sports news paper in Spain. They were once a very respected paper with quality and unbiased journalism, but over the last 2-3 decades it began to shift to being very pro-Madrid (Madrid is by far the most supported club, so they found a good market there). And over the last 10-15 years they shifted to being a sensationalist bs media, that makes up transfer rumours, dressroom troubles, drama and whatever might create controversy. They are also very hooligan-esque, constantly disrespecting other clubs. Honestly, I hate what they've become, they make Madrid look bad.
As for it being close to the club, it is likely that Florentino is funding them or collaborating them in the shadows in some way, because MARCA constantly deepthroats him, as well as the players Florentino likes, and constantly criticizes and campaigns against the players and managers Florentino wants to get rid off.
