maybe the ref thought the same about the 'two wrongs', and while trying to be 'principled', he actually made another shitty call for an even shittier reason: valuing his own ego over justice - that'd make it even worse imo.
that's speculation ofc, but not entirely baseless: refs DO get feedback and i think they sometimes even review scenes during half-time (at least i saw that in a documentation about bundesliga refs), so it's not unlikely he knew he messed up there.
feedback and extra reviews for refs at half time should be forbidden in my opinion, especially when there is no VAR

but its also a judgement call that should not be changed, when a video ref is around, thats all
