An interesting fact though is that Madrid will have to pay Málaga 1M€ if they win La Liga, as part of the Isco deal, which included a clause by which Madrid would pay 1M€ to Málaga for every Liga title Madrid won.... so in this sense it would be a good news for them if we beat them
But looking at the prize dividend paid according to league position, by potentially dropping from 11th to 13th which can happen on the last day, they could lose €1m-€2m in the future as a result (if I'm understanding it correctly)
So aren't they more incentivised to win and maintain 11th position above Valencia and Celta to continue to bring that average up? If they can move up from their current spot by 1 or 2 positions (in the 5 year ranking), they could increase revenue from €3m-€9m
From the distribution model I read about is says the money is divided thus:
La Liga will put both domestic and oversees yearly TV money in one pot from which 10% will be allocated for division 2 teams. While rest of the 90% will be distributed according to following model.
Equal share: 50% will be distributed equally between all 20 top flight clubs
Merit Money: 25% will be distributed according to league positions based on last 5 years.Resources Generation: 25% will be distributed according to each team’s capacity of generating resourses for examble number of official club members, season tickets sold, attendance etc.
So if that means the mean average of the past 5 seasons it would be like this:
2016/2017 = 11, 12 or 13
2015–16 = 8
2014–15 = 9
2013–14 = 11
2012–13 = 6
So this season might not impact it immediately but it could in the future? either way, the best case scenario for them is to lose to Real with Valencia and Celta also gaining no ground. Either way, performance related bonuses between competing outfits is highly exploitable, it shouldn't be allowed
