If they don't play they leave and you're stuck with a unexperienced keeper not good enough for backup.

If you're not good enough to start, just sit back and it's all good. You can play for the reserve team.

Nobody wants to play in the reserve team lol. Not to mention there isn't such a thing in Spain... there's the b-team, which plays in the third level, but there's an age restriction and you can only play there if you are registered as a b-team player (in which case you can't play more than a certain number of games with the senior squad).

Keepers want to play, not just earn money while sitting down. If they spend 3-4 years on the bench then no one will want to sign them when their contracts run out.
