"I've got to say I did follow Juventus' results this season," Germany international Draxler told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "While in October I thought I had done well to avoid what would have been a banana skin, I have to admit that, in hindsight, it would have been nice to win the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia."

Draxler revealed details of the negotiations that took place last summer, saying the two clubs had been unable to agree on a fee before Wolfsburg came in with the funds earned from the De Bruyne sale and matched Schalke's expectations immediately.

"It was an honour for me that Juve wanted to sign me and had been trying so hard for so long to get me," Draxler said. "They are a club I've always followed. There were several rounds of talks in August and we tried to find an agreement with Schalke about my fee.

"I had already agreed terms with the Bianconeri and as far as I was concerned, it was all done, but the two clubs could not find an agreement. At the last minute, Wolfsburg sold De Bruyne and got in touch with me as his replacement."

"This is a big club who won two trophies last year in the German Cup and the German Supercup, and it enabled me to stay in Germany and be more in the spotlight for the national team," he said. "Wolfsburg and Schalke reached an agreement straight away and so I decided to accept this second option."

He also acknowledged that the pressure at Juve would have been far more intense.

"At the start of the season, I said to myself '[Andrea] Pirlo, [Arturo] Vidal and [Carlos] Tevez have left and now you've come and things are going badly,'" Draxler said. "The criticism I would have received would have been huge, like it was for [Paulo Dybala].

"But over time, the quality of this team emerged. They would even have deserved to beat Bayern Munich [in the Champions League round of 16] in my opinion. I would have loved to have played in such a strong team, with people like [Paul] Pogba and Dybala.

"I would have liked to win the Scudetto, but there is a more relaxed atmosphere here in Wolfsburg. It's more serene. Even the media pressure is more manageable. This is why I chose to come here, to allow me to grow calmly. I remain convinced that coming here was the right decision."
