the language barrier really killed gary
I'm sure that was an obstacle, but tbf Moyes got much better results (albeit still bad ones), with the same language barrier and a worse squad.
He had Pako Ayestarán (the new manager) assisting him, and he has a fluent english (he was part of Benítez's backroom staff at Liverpool), aswell a his native spanish of course.. Neville basicly signed him because he was someone witha big reputation in physical training, who had worked in England and knew Valencia (he also worked with Benítez there), so he could help him communicate with his players. It's what Bobby Robson did at Barcelona, and it worked really well for him as he managed to reconstruct a broken team in no time.
So, yes, the language barrier was a problem, but not an excuse imo. He just didn't know how to handle the situations he faced, perhaps due to his lack of experience.
