It's cartilage which means it will almost never heal 100%, not that many players around who continue to play at top level after such a surgery..

Oh shit....

Any big names who suffered this kind of injury that i might have heard of?

Just googled cartilage to swedish. Sounds like meniscus?

Or chondral injury?

It's probably a torn MCL/ACL, cartilage damage is common in these types of injury. Obviously the most famous player is Ronaldo (R9).
Many players have come back as good as before though, but the injury is somewhat of a curse because you never really know and recurring injuries are somewhat common and devastating

Yeh, ive torn both acl's and reconstructed them(last one just 8months ago). One of the injuries also injured my meniscus(cartilage)

But i think welbecks injury is something else than meniscus cartilage. Like the chondral

I tore my ACL, partially tore my MCL in the same knee. Elected not to have the surgery though so I know what you're talking about

You may be right, I tried to look for more information on Welbeck's injury but the statement was really limited to cartilage damage, I just assumed given the 9 month timeline... seems like a strange one

Well, if the meniscus cartilage is very very badly injured, they cant just take away small loose pieces and sew together where it broke up. Instead, they replace it with a plastic/rubber meniscus, and that takes time to heal! So might be thats what welbeck goes through
