Getting most of your assists from set pieces and corners means that those assists could be anybody's in the team who has reasonable technical ability, take Mata for example.

Assists from open play are more valuable because they are less transferable - anybody can just get an assist from taking a corner, whereas not everyone can provide a cutting pass to open up the opposition.
