Don't get me wrong. I'm NOT saying Heynckes isn't a good coach or that winning the trophy was pure luck on his side.
BUT imagine another coach (not van Gaal) as his predecessor, leaving him with a different team with different tactical groundwork and (who knows) maybe without Müller or Badstuber already being part of the squad and experienced in international games.
Heynckes would have had to start all over then, wouldn't he? So one can say he was lucky he had van Gaal's groundwork to base his eventual formation and tactical demands on, right? Imagine van Gaal never being there and Henyckes taking over the squad formerly coached by Klinsmann... unlucky for ANY coach imo.
well i agree with everything you said here but i think we both know it's just a straw man - that wasn't at all what my point was about.
what i was saying is that pep had the same players and then some... but you made it sound like only heynckes was the lucky one to have those players while pep was somehow in a worse position which is simply not true.
in fact, heynckes got a team of very good players and made them his team and won the cl while guardiola got a cl winning team plus funds never seen before in bundesliga history. not to be mistaken here, a team of cl winners doesn't automatically mean you win it again next year (as a matter so far cl history suggests it's actually impossible) - but guardiola had plenty of time and funds and never even made it to the final with bayern...
