now this is an interesting theory, please elaborate. while i'm certainly not denying the positives of van gaal's stint at bayern (recognising, fostering and trusting important youth players) - why has heynckes just been "lucky"? and more importantly, why do you grant said luck (to have a team of good players and make them win the cl) only to heynckes and not to pep, who had the SAME good players PLUS tens of millions to spend and make it his team just like heynckes made them his team?
Don't get me wrong. I'm NOT saying Heynckes isn't a good coach or that winning the trophy was pure luck on his side.
BUT imagine another coach (not van Gaal) as his predecessor, leaving him with a different team with different tactical groundwork and (who knows) maybe without Müller or Badstuber already being part of the squad and experienced in international games.
Heynckes would have had to start all over then, wouldn't he? So one can say he was lucky he had van Gaal's groundwork to base his eventual formation and tactical demands on, right? Imagine van Gaal never being there and Henyckes taking over the squad formerly coached by Klinsmann... unlucky for ANY coach imo.
Also, winning CL is ALWAYS strongly connected to being lucky, don't you think? So many variables, so many factors that could be deciding... it's simply not plannable. 3x semis isn't a sign of failure for the club or the coach or the players imo. It's a sign of being constantly able to push limits.
