In no way shape or form should Messi receive any honor, whatsoever. I personally felt like Messi was subpar in teh worldcup. I also feel like he is on a fast decline at club level as well. Having the knowledge and the awareness to make a run to get a tap in, is still as difficult as beating a player and scoring. It is a TEAM game. With that being said, Robben was the best player in the World Cup finals. I would have liked to see how Robben would have played in that game vs Argentina, had he not had the flu. There is no reality check in this. Messi did not have a good World Cup. The team was carried by the defense over performing and the offense getting lucky goals. In terms of season play, what did Messi do this past year? Nothing. Scored a bunch of goals against farmers and didnt win the ucl, yet Di Maria fueled Real Madrid and Ronaldo scored plenty of goals. It doesnt matter if Ronaldo missed 4,752 tap ins. He still had 17 champions league goals. Also, Di Maria had the most chances created for Real Madrid and seriously looked like a special spark in their team. Messi is a fantastic player, but this past year he was not his former self, with both Argentina and Barcelona. He had 4 goals and an assist. How many of those goals came against serious competition in the world cup? Oh, 0? He did not score outside of the group stages yet was elected player of the tournament? That doesnt make sense to me.
