Croatia killed Germany in 98 and it took them 8 years to resurrect. Honestly, I think that Germany was very mediocre.
Yes, the final was kind of close, but finals rarely do justice to the level of the teams; there are too many other factors involved in those kind of matches.
Against Germany, Korea had a UEFA ref for the first time, and received no help from him. Plus they felt too much pressure after being so close to the final, and their luck had pretty much run out.
