Its a wake up call for Italian teams

Italian and Spanish teams have long been earning too many points awarded for deep runs in the EL when they count the same as CL points.. its a joke really

yep ^^
the teams in the el covered for recent italian cl failures
except last year obviously

Well Spain has had 2 teams in the CL semis for the past 5 years, and 3 teams in CL quarters for the past 4 years, with teams like Atlético only being ko'd in european competitions by spanish teams since 2011...

I'm pretty sure Spain would still comfortably lead the coefficient rankings even if EL points were removed, because no other league has had that many teams in the later CL stages at such a consistent rate.

Update!

Standings at the end of the season (as of now, after the 7th of 15 european game weeks):

2. Bundesliga - 61.213
3. Serie A - 58.248
4. Premier League - 57.659

Bundesliga widens the gap between them and Serie A, while the italians minimally increase their advantage over the prem. To be fair though, the EPL will have 2 teams playing the CL next week instead of 1.

However the best news for England is that overall italian clubs have picked up bad results in the first legs of ko stage and most of themlook like they are on the way out.

No excuse for the English but at least these 4 away games are over. Maybe they fare better at home. Though I won't hold my breath. -_-

I'm pretty sure that all of them will qualify (in the EL... although perhaps Spurs might throw it away to focus on fighting for the league).

Out of the italian clubs I think only Lazio, Juve and Fiorentina have somewhat of a chance, but tbh I'd be surprised if more than one made it through.

The way things stand now, imo it's very unlikely that Serie A will snatch that 4th CL spot.

Villarreal will definetely score, and they defend really well so I don't see them conceding 3 goals at all.

I'd love it if my boy Pipita trashed that plastic village club, but it's not going to happen.

wolfsburg got gent, not germany - after sending manchester united to europa league btw...

bayern got juve
dortmund got porto
augsburg got liverpool
schalke got shakhtar
leverkusen got sporting

meanwhile english clubs got teams like kiev, midtjylland and augsburg...
so stop complaining, kid...
