I agree arsenal dont have many players who are captain material

However having a joke player like arteta as captain would not motivate the players imo and hasnt worked so far.

I feel that it has, players are afraid to skip training and are always doing their best on training otherwise Per is there to fine them. During the big games a season or two ago you could tell there wasn't a captain tho, heavy defeats vs top teams etc. But that also took a turn for the better and we are more solid vs bigger teams now imo.

Only thing that is killing is, is the underestimating of smaller teams like Dinamo

Yeah I guess sometimes they just think all they need to do is show up..

They need a change in culture that would come with a powerful captain to give the orders out ... someone like roy keane in his day would be perfect

Well Mertesacker is doing that job, making sure players like Özil don't start flying and he's doing a good job imo. Problem will be when he won't play as much as he used to, Gabriel is slowly taking over his position (and doing it very well at that)

I expect Coquelin to step up and perhaps become a captain one day

I think they both make for a good combo, Arteta gives his fatherly advice while Mertesacker can punish when needed. Pains me to say it buy they're much better captains than Vermaelen was

I dont like gabriel, i think his clearances is very sloppy. Many times instead of heading balls into safety he seems to target open spots with a 50/50 chance of who gets the ball. U never saw merte doing that. Not chambers either.

I still prefer merte over gabriel, and chambers over gabriel.
Id choose monreal beforw chambers and gabriel even, but he's needed on the left as gibbs is too aggressive...
Picking order kos>merte>chambers>gabriel

Insert unpopular puffin.

Can't say I've seen that, but that's something he can easly learn tho. He's fast and a really good tackler

Imo arsenal's main issue is that there is no real competition for the starting eleven. Merte ozil sanchez giroud and many other seem to be given a spot in the starting 11

Some areas yes, some areas no.

Players like Ox, Debuchy, Walcott etc are all close to starting positions. Gabriel is also making it difficult for Merte to stay in (altho he will play if he comes back)
