Well the rumours of him going didn't go that far tbh, he did get a big new contract in order for him to stay in Belgium.

We are trying again with another big bid hopefully this transfer window, we REALLY need a good striker, and he fits exactly what we need!

Don't take this offensivly, but I think he's to good for 2nd division, he should go to a team just below the likes of Everton

With a striker such as him, we would most likely be in the premier league next season!

That could very well be true, Vossen is the typical striker that scores the important goals :D

He's more talented than Eden, and his future definatly is in the big clubs if he keeps his consistency. So yeah he has the same potential imo.

I don't know. Eden has always been a teamplayer and able to make a diffirene. Thorgan is more a player who must have a team around him therefor I'd say no. But he is still young so you'll never be able to tell.

I agree and disagree, last season he was what you said, but this season he's leading the team to the top, high amount of goals and assists already

despite having a (at least in my opinion) surprisingly good 1st half of the season (currently 9th), mainz was unusually busy signing new players this winter. and we spent a LOT of money (well, at least for our standards)...

- € 5 mio. (highest transfer fee in our history if i'm not mistaken) for ja-cheol koo from wolfsburg (a transfer i'm very happy with since he's a quality player and we already wanted to sign him in the summer, i think i even posted about it in this thread)
- € 3 mio. for todor nedelev from botev plovdiv who hopefully will be the striker we're missing since we sold szalai to schalke
- dario kresic, croatian goalkeeper from lokomotiv moscow, free transfer

Did they buy these players since someone left/is leaving?

e: oh just read Szalai is gone

yeah but we already sold him in summer. no one from the first team left the club this winter (just ede on loan) and one of our summer transfers (okazaki) has already proven to be a good investment. so that and the relatively good position in the league is why i'm quite surprised we spent so much this winter.
but i won't complain, koo will be an immediate quality boost for the team, i like him very much and i'm confident we have enough quality now to avoid relegation...
