You're looking at it wrong. He still has the quality to play for the team but he's not the type of player that will make the difference.
HOWEVER off the pitch he is vital, he is experienced and he is a born leader, something we lacked for a while.

He may be a great leader off the pitch but he should not be captain. Arsenal needs a captain who is starting every game and leading the team on and off the pitch.
Arteta is longer even a back up. Is probably a 3rd choice by now

Dont get me wrong I like Arteta I just think Arsenal finally need a captain who is one of the first names on the team sheet and can lead On the pitch
