Goal keeping expert right here

dont try to tell me that there is anything preventing the gks to step a bit into the center instead of "overcovering" their gk corner

but they simply dont get it and will continue to conceed easy goals

Yes, because then Bale would easily place it into the left side corner

those 3 would fail miserably trying to do that

what bothers me is that goalkeepers behave bad at freekicks
positioning themselves so far on the other side that a halfway decent shot like this one goes in easily
cover on the post was a good idea, but too late
nowadays there are dozends and more players who can get the ball over the wall towards the goal like that and gks still dont learn

thats all i am saying, the very best freekicks wont be saved either way, but this is just embarrassing

If they don't stay on the left side it's an easy goal for the freekick taker..

no he wouldnt
putting the ball there wont be so much easier by stepping A BIT into middle like i suggest

it would be far more difficult for bale, because there would be no open space then and he had to fire the ball straight into the right/left top corner to score for
even making the guy taking the fk thinking about this will produce some confusion

try to see it this way
standing like they do will make it extremely easy to put the ball over the wall into an empty corner, while my suggestion will have more cover behind the wall
its not like an incredible shot wont go straight into the gk corner either way, so that argument is complete bullshit to begin with

You really think goalkeepers don't know how to position themselves? I've played GK for like a year max and the first thing they learn is the positioning, and in that freekick his position was good. He couldn't react since the ball went perfectly over the wall and it was a strong and fast freekick from close range.

If the ball goes over the wall from such a short distance, it will always end up in a goal.

isnt anywhere near the top corner or the post

a decent amateur gk saves that one lol

sry but what are you talking about? the ball was high enough to go over the wall and the player scrambling back to cover the near post. not top corner, that's right, but looks like very close to the goal post actually.
also, it was a freekick right on the edge of the box and he hit it with quite some speed which means there was very little time to react. nothing any " decent amateur gk" could handle for sure...

and about the positioning: you are aware that the gk corner in this case is his right corner? his positioning suggests that he even speculated the ball going to the near post rather than his corner, he was actually "undercovering" it...

the only real "mistake" that was made is that the player covering the near post was a little too late. then again, if you have a player standing there too early you'll have a crowded box because you're giving away your offside trap and any "decent amateur team" knows that...
