So basically I'm right and he is wrong...and made himself look like a dick in the process

Its quite obvious, the notoriety the brand gains by signing a player like ronaldo is almost priceless. You cannot equal that with an advertising agency, no matter the cash pumped in.

Plus the fact that ronaldo probably gets like 10 to 15 mil a year`s salary, i expect his other income to be almost double that.

The club basically takes a cut on everything.

of course they did. 9/11 was an inside job, the moon landing was faked and the holocaust never happened

see what I did there? now stop believing everything you read

How can you even say that? that are hundreds of millions of people who know who Ronaldo is, tens of millions of football fans who love Ronaldo (the dude has like 80 million likes on facebook, one of the most followed on twitter too) + Real Madrid has an estimated fan base well over 100 million ++

I don't know how the prices work in other countries but in Norway it works like this:

Shirt price = €100

- 25% VAT (Value added tax) = €80

sports retailers make roughly 20-25% profit on items they sell so they bought it from Adidas for about €60.

Adidas wants their share of the profit which will probably be 40-50% of the price they sell to retailers, in this case that makes roughly €30.

Cost of producing the shirt is next to nothing (like €0.35 or something stupid) so roughly €30 per shirt should go to Real Madrid, right?

If he cost €96 million they only need to sell 3 million shirts to earn their money back, or roughly 600,000 - 700,000 shirts per year which should be very easy I expect Ronaldo to be selling millions of shirts each year.

Is there something I'm missing in the calculation?

If a shirt is 100 euros and VAT is 25% then you are left with 75 euros not 80 ^^ B)

Let's finally put this shirt club profit myth to bed, here's a good article on it -

Not a good article. First of all, it's a Chelsea forum. Secondly, there are no sources given as evidence, anyone could have written that from an opinionated point of view.

Acording to Nike and Adidas, the top selling clubs are Real Madrid and Manchester United – and even they “only” sell 1.2-1.5 million shirts a year.

Some might say that part of this cost will be offset by shirt sales, but you need to sell an awful lot of shirts (average profit €12) to make a dent in this.

Prove me wrong, how shirt sales are such an amazing source of club profits and can wholly finance record high transfers.

According to reports in Spain, United-target Angel Di Maria has turned down PSG.
