most merchandising income goes directly to adidas/nike and hardly to the club. the club's part is rather tiny compared to the supplier.

always laughed when delusional peeps wanted to explain that the transfer cost of a player can be fully refinanced through shirt sales

Real Madrid got their £80m money back from Ronaldo with shirt sales alone...

http://metro.co.uk/2010/04/15/cristiano-ronaldo-shirt-sales-have-already-paid-off-80m-fee-to-manchester-united-real-madrid-claim-242129/

The club claimed it themselves, says in here.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2010/04/14/1878445/real-madrid-have-sold-over-a-million-cristiano-ronaldo

Says they own 50% of his imaging rights so they benefit from deals with Nike etc.

Makes sense to me, and I don't understand why you can't accept that one of the most popular footballers in the world, playing for the biggest club in the world, can't earn back his fee in shirt sales.

Its a bit more complicated. But real made a profit on ronaldo.

Costed 100.

1. Merchandising income. Selling 10.000 shirts a season or 2 million matters in terms of both revenue and sponsor one-time payment increase.
2. Club market value increase %, shares boosting when plc.
3. Player`s image rights usually the club takes a cut on this.
4. Plus the fact that iconic profile signings bring a lot of bandwaggoners into the club.

win, win, win.
