What a joke. Small clubs like Málaga get banned for a much softer breach of FFP and CAS does nothing about it, City gets banned and CAS comes to the rescue.

Successful appeal

At least FFP is dead now. Load of shit.
I fully expected the ban to be reduced to 1 year so both UEFA and City would save face, CAS stitches the former right up by insisting they're slow with building the case against City and presenting their findings

To be fair, most of City's lavish spending happened before FFP was introduced and the law doesn't work backwards.

disappointing? sure. surprising? hardly. money rules the world, and that obviously includes sports.

a ridiculous decision that finally destoys the last bit of illusion some fans might still have had about fairness and justice when it comes to the most egregious examples of shady and unethical financial practices.

Most of the emails that showed City flouting FFP were released by a Portugese hacker currently in jail. UEFA's constitution says they can't punish teams for offences committed over 5 years ago. These two factors explain why City can't be punished within the legal framework, it's not like CAS are biased towards City.

“Manchester City FC did not disguise equity fundings as sponsorships.”

Simple, they weren't guilty of breaching FFP, but everybody already got their hopes up that they did.

Man City aren't doing anything that a number of other top clubs aren't doing. Go look into some of Juve, Madrid and Barca's recent sponsorship and transfer dealings, you'll see all sorts of fancy tricks being employed.

The senior officials at Man City were not worried at all throughout this process, confidently stating their ban would 100% be overturned, now we know why.

Part of that confidence would be derived from bringing in the best sports lawyers in the world. I also read in the athletic that Man City's legal team for this was about 10x the size of UEFA's.
