From the City point of view, what defence is compelling enough to get the decision overturned?

The obvious one that sticks out to me is that the basis of the investigation stems from hacked internal emails. However, that doesn't absolve City of the creative accounting used to swerve FFP. They'd have to prove Etihad paid all their reported sponsorship revenue, which they would have done by now if they were innocent.

I don't see how this gets overturned.

Club statement:

Simply put, this is a case initiated by UEFA, prosecuted by UEFA and judged by UEFA. With this prejudicial process now over, the Club will pursue an impartial judgment as quickly as possible and will therefore, in the first instance, commence proceedings with the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the earliest opportunity.

Quite the statement from UEFA, curious to see how many windows they actually are banned.

All I'm seeing here is City trying to save face by attempting to prove figures they haven't been able to prove for the last 8-9 years.

Like I said, I think the only chance they have is through arguing the emails were hacked so invalid evidence. Maybe I'm wrong...

Looks to me like UEFA purposefully banned them for 2 seasons as they know City are gonna appeal to CAS who as they always do will reduce the ban, to one season in this case - City will cry justice but UEFA will still have the last laugh.

yeah the argument put forth reads as “UEFA is being mean they banned us from their competition because we broke the rules we agreed to, it’s not fair, how dare they”

as stated said the financial fraud period is 2012-2016. that’s nearly half a decade and coincidentally begins at the start of their title-winning seasons

and it’s not a court of law. some numbers or lawyer guy at Citeh could have accidentally emailed the info to a journalist, same result really.

but we’ll see, i expect a full-court press of propaganda blaming “UEFA, Whiskey Sniffer Sir Alex, Nazi Klopp, Mourinho, Buyern, Barca, Madrid, etc. of being racist against Citeh which ruins the spirit of sport”

this decision genuinely surprised me. usually the UEFA shies away from severely punishing the big clubs. half-assed transfer bans were the best they could do so far.

finally some justice. sucks for their fans, i get that, but repeatedly and blatantly violating FFP rules should have some real consequences that you can't just make go away with a neverending stream of money from the middle east, in this case the UAE.

i have some newfound respect for the UEFA and ceferin in particular. this is a good day and a good decision for football imo.
