We’ll know tomorrow. He’s in Barcelona to get checked out which is a bad sign that it’s serious.

Playing in England, french national but doctors only available in Spain?

Best doctors in the world don’t always live in your country.

Damaged cartilage and lateral meniscus. Out 3-6 months. What horrible luck, he’s easily the second best defender in the PL.

So now we just have Otamendi and Stones and some academy graduates.

Pep will be using Fernandinho at CB this whole season I’m assuming with Rodri adjusting well and tearing it up already.

VVD and Laporte are easily and head and shoulders the best defenders in the league.

If he isn't back for the Christmas period that could be a season defining injury.

3 month minimum. I don’t think he gets back until January.

Spain does have a very good reputation among athletes when it comes to doctors and physiotherapists, that is true, but there is also another factor that is much more important: top level athletes are super obsessive and fanatical about their health and performance, and are willing to take very few "risks".

If a player got a good result from a doctor or physiotherapist, he will often form a very strong bond with him, and will want to work with him again if he's ever injured... even if he's thousands of miles away. That guy will always be the best health professional in the world, in their book. Or if a close friend or team mate also had a positive experience with a certain doctor, that will be the go to place for the athlete. They are generally very skeptic about trying new doctors or physiotherapists. I've seen many football players from top clubs all over Europe come to Madrid to carry out their physical rehabilitation because of this... many of them were Spanish players that already knew the professionals here, or they were foreigners that had a Spanish team mate that recommended them.

In Laporte's case, having been raised in Spain, it's natural that the health professionals he has a personal trust in are here.
