Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez claims that Carlo Ancelotti was Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice to replace him at Manchester United.
Perez claims that Ancelotti turned down United and instead opted to take on the challenge at Real Madrid when he left PSG.
The Old Trafford club then turned to David Moyes with disastrous consequences - leading to the appointment of Louis van Gaal less than a year later.
"Manchester United wanted him last year," Perez told Spanish radio station COPE.
"He told me that Ferguson asked him to be his replacement.
"Possibly United wanted him this year, but I don't know. I can only assure you that they wanted him last year."

I don't rate him at all myself, winning 1 Serie A title in 8 years, lucking out to a title with Chelsea then getting sacked the following season and now finishing lowly third in a two team league by absolutely collapsing in the last couple of games against semi amateur clubs.
