Kroos could satisfy the deep lying playmaker roll imo especially with Carrick not getting any younger.
Doesn't solve the lack of a MF enforcer that is highly needed. Even one that is box-to-box a la Yaya.
true dat, you really need a player like yaya, vidal, gündogan to work the ball up

the only "real" playmaker imo. who else can fill that role like kroos? only götze and thiago are somewhat close to that but they have a different playstyle (both more focused on dribblings and short passes, you rarely see them playing those precise longballs to the wingers like kroos does frequently)...
now we both should not forget that they obviously get their instructions from the manager (making the game slow, playing short passes, keeping possession - so which midfielder does NOT do that under guardiola?)
but there are a couple of reason why kroos has been a key player for ALL the managers he had at bayern:
- he has incredible tactical awareness and is able to read the game
- he has very good technique, you rarely see him lose control of the ball
- his passing is extremely precise - and not only his short passes, also his long balls
- he has an awesome shot (which imo he still not uses often enough), hard, precise, good control, with both feet!
sure, he has some weeknesses, i agree with you that he still has to improve his workrate and attitude sometimes but you make it sound like he's always lackluster and lazy while in fact you can already see an improvement concerning his defensive work...
his heading is awful and his defensive tackle mediocre at best but imo that should not be his primary task on the pitch anyway...
sure he gets these instructions from pep, you are right
and yes, he is a classic playmaker compared to the others, focusing on distributing the ball
but i know him from the beginning and he never was any different
with heynckes quicker playstyle it was often annoying to see how slow he works
often losing the ball without any reason
and for his passing
kroos has amazing ability there, true enough, but he switches between many many safety passes and then comes a long ball missing the target or completely outta the place
trust me, i have seen it more often than you can imagine ^^
the solid passing from schweini or javi martinez fits the situation more often
if you look at last season, the key was kroos injury and not his impact on the games xD
at least we agree on his attitude
but as i said, england has fixed many players up in that regard
and if he stays like he is.....still better than the players united has atm
