Boxing day win for my team :D Still 1-0 FT but against the leaders of the league, who now sit 3rd! We are 8 points safe from relegation, but also only 8 points from the play off zone!

Think my team are on a revival of our season! 2-0 at half time already against Reading, who are above us in the table, really can press for promotion now! Hopes are looking a lot more warranted!

Reading just had a man sent off :D my 11 man team vs 10 man reading :D

Now that the xmas break is finally over in spanish football, Mallorca will be playing away against Las Palmas tomorrow.

Las Palmas, like Mallorca, is historically a team from the lower end of Primera (although we've been more succesful in terms of titles and european runs; and they've spent much more time in Segunda than in Primera during the past 3 decades). After their last relegation from Primera, in 2002, the club crumbled and soon relegated again, this time to the 3rd level, for the 2nd time in their history. From there they've slowly progressed over the years and are now back where they should be, fighting for promotion.

I don't think they'll promote this year though. Right now they are 5th, in playoff positions, and I think they'll finish the season there, but I don't think the team is prepared to win the playoffs yet. Could be different next year though.

Winning in Las Palmas has traditionaly been difficult, mostly because it's a bit of a pain to fly all the way to the Canary Islands (same thing happens against Tenerife) and the team usually plays well home, and Mallorca has only won once there. Looking on the bright side though, this year Las Palmas has been surprisingly inconsistent home, dropping points in most of the matches and actually getting more points in away games; so that does raises our optimism. Normally we'd settle with a draw, but given their bad form home and the fact that we need the 3 points (which would allow us to enter the playoff zone and surpass them on the table), we have to try and win. Also, that one time we won there was on our first match after the xmas break B)

Las Palmas 2 - 2 Mallorca

A decent result considering the next 2 games are home and we can really go for the 6 points. Still one point away from the playoff spots.

Lost 2-0 to Hull in the FA cup 3rd round. Means we can concentrate on the league, and at least we went out to premier league opposition!

22 games left. Playoffs are one point away, and direct promotion is 3 points away (could be 6 today, but I'm expecting 4),

A flight to the Canary Islands takes about 4 hours from Mallorca... and around 5 if you are going through Madrid or Barcelona. It's not superlong, but it is a much longer flight than to anywhere else in Spain, and it pretty much makes the team waste the day traveling.

Mallorca will be playing home against Córdoba tomorrow, in the last game of the first half of the season.

Córdoba has spent most of its history in the 2nd and 3rd levels (pretty much equally), although they managed to play in Primera throughout most of the 60s. Aside from a 2 year spell in the 3rd level, they've been playng in Segunda the last 15 years, finishing in the mid-low part of the table most of the time.

This year they are doing well though. They have the same points as Mallorca (29), but they are ahead of us on goal difference. The reason behind this though, is their outstanding form when playing home. Out of the 29 points they have, 23 were achieved home, making them the best home team and the second worst away team in Segunda. So I'm confident Mallorca will win this. It would be great to beat them and finish the league's first round in playoff positions.
