Maybe english teams are bad, compared to German and Spanish ones in CL and EL, because they play like 1.5 times more matches a season.
the top english clubs cant afford to rotate the starting 11 as frequently as Bayern/Barca/Real, because there are way less "easy" matches in the league.

But maybe it is also because - the teams are too old in general(What was city average age vs Barca?!)
- Real top notch players prefer Barca/Real/Bayern, the best EPL player of the year usually goes to Real...
- too many foreigners play in the league, there are only a few players, who stay in one club for more than 3 years
- the most successful english club forgot to renew the team in time, because of an old stubborn manager and now struggles to make that change

I think Messi> Ronaldo claim is fair if you look at the last 6 years or so...Messi has been marginally better over that period of time imo.
