Agree with Pele not being up there since he only played in South America for his prime then came to New York. He did amazing national team level though.

It's hard to judge because football has changed, we weren't around back then so our views are different and biased. His teammates for Brazil were in the Brazilian league, it was very strong back then. You have to consider that the best South American talents were playing in their home leagues back then, they didn't all start going to Europe until the money boom.
Look at his record against some of the top European sides at the time, like AC Milan and Benfica etc, he completely smashed them.
In 60 years time people will be looking at the top players now as inferior athletes, that's the way it's always worked. People will look at some of the farmer teams in La Liga and other top leagues and laugh off the competition.
He has 12 goals in 14 World Cup games. No top player in this era would better that. He was getting brutalised, targeted by every opposition team. You have to take into consideration the fact that they didn't really call fouls back then. If you were being hacked while dribbling, they would just play on if you still had possession. Nobody was getting called back for yellow/red cards.
