What? This has been a really entertaining world cup to watch imo

I mean sure there has been quality goals, and late goals.

But when you look at the football played, it's pretty poor imo. So many teams parking the bus and hoping for counters/lucky goals.

France may scored 4 against argentina, but if you look at the game, France was more or less parking the bus and "thanks god" they had Mbappe having a hell of game and saved their as.

I also didn't see many players go on 1vs1, try to out drible an opponent since there barely are any 1vs1 situation.

its the new trend, possession football has been exposed for a while

just today i heard about the fact that the 5 teams with the highest percentage of possession are all eliminated already

fast transition from a solid defense is getting more and more popular and france have the perfect players for it
afaik they didnt even have 40% possession vs argentina

I agree - next step will be that both teams want to come from a solid defense park the bus/go for counter attacks.
What happens then?
both teams around their boxes with the ball just laying in the middle of the pitch?
Or will sth like Dirk Nowitzki sized (2,1x meters) strikers be the next big thing to break these defenses with crosses to the giant striker?
who knows...

thing is, even very tall strikers are not impossible to defend when its this obvious

football is like fashion, changes all the time and someone will come up with something to counter the current approach, copycat action, repeat

yeah but the thing is crosses is arguably the only way to break a defense that defends like a handball team around their box (like everyone against germany), so one giant in there would definitely help - because there is not really space for passing it through the middle.
I think if Germany had one tall player with good ability to head the ball, sth like a 2m10 Miro Klose - nobody would play that way against us anymore
