England have usually had really good teams on paper, most notably: Mexico 1986, Italia 90, Euro 96, Japan/Korea 2002 and Germany 2006. We actually got to the quarters and semis a few times but now with an inferior squad and less pressure we're in a brilliant position to win it.
At age 18-20 his goal scoring numbers resembled those of prime Messi and Cristiano (around one goal per game), and that was during a time where a lot less goals were being scored.
It is impossible to know just how good he would have been if he hadn't had those injury problems, but the potential he showed back in the day is far greater than anything I've seen (considering his age).
