the thing is, while werner, sané, reus, and müller are all amazing players, you need a player who can create chances from a central position up there.

my guess is müller will be playing a false right 'winger' with werner up top, possibly freely switching positions but defensive tasks on their assigned sides, özil centrally behind it, while sané and reus will share the left offensive side, depending on the opponent (and possibly individual form). sané probably for weaker defenses to exploit one on one situations and lack of speed, maybe in combination with more of a target man in the middle, and reus for a more direct threat towards the opponent's goal and even more switch up play amongst the front three...

Knowing Low, there's no way Ozil doesn't start

Which is just fine
You cannot have 11 new players on the pitch every match
We‘ve seen against Brasil

What is the DFB demanding from Löw? Semis at least? Or something more ambitious?

there's no 'official' target he has to achieve. he just extended his contract (unfortunately), and aside from an embarrassing group stage or round of 16 exit against a really weak opponent, there's nothing that will put ANY pressure on him - and even that he would likely survive.

that being said though, players, coach, and association DO have ambitious goals (semis, reaching the final again is what you can hear and read between the lines), and that's completely fine with me. the team is good enough to be that ambitious.
ofc it also depends on the draw, form on matchday, luck, and also the ref (i just hope we don't get a spaniard trying to book every single player in a group or early elimination match again) - but i think semis is realistic, and from there everything goes. we might not be favourites, but amongst the top 4 (brazil, germany, spain, france) it's very close imo...

With that squad (taking into consideration skill+experience) the trophy should ours to lose
Having a look at the other squads I fail to see any that would be able to compete

official aim is to defend the title, but you cant realistically expect the team and löw to do that
and i certainly dont expect those fifa refs do be on our side

but making a deep run into the semis is something you can somewhat expect from this team and then we will see what happens

it all comes down to how the team performs, if we go out earlier against a strong opponent in an epic game....shit happens

I see, thank you for the answers, my German friends.

Here we're aiming for the title, but we understand we're not favourites and so we'd still be satisfied with a semifinal run. Lopetegui would likely survive a quarterfinal exit though, as he has done a great job so far and the team has played really well. So, unless a catastrophe happens and we exit in the group stage or the first ko stage, Lopetegui will almost certainly continue to keep developing the team.
