Ah, I see... thought the fierce rivalry would make it so you didn't want to see them win trophies (just have them there to get the points all the way to final, but then fail)

And yep, 2001-02, with the Van Hooijdonkey (sorry can never spell his name) freekick. Madrid later beat them in the UEFA Supercup :D

Pierre van Hooijdonk. Yes that was horrible. I'm a PSV supporter, I don't have fierce rivalries mate :P. Very possible that Ajax fans and Feyenoord fans (especially them) dont want Ajax and Feyenoord to do well. Idiots. allthough they are fierce rivals, even they understand that going the distance in Europe is important to keep attrackting young taltens with the limited resources that we have.

I see. I know the history of Ajax-PSV isn't the same as the history of Ajax-Feyenoord, but I thought that by this point after 3 decades where PSV has been better than Feyenoord, you guys would hate Ajax about as much as Feyenoord fans do :P

It's interesting though, I just never imagined that Feyenoord fans could ever be happy that Ajax won a european trophy, even if it's good for dutch football and they themselves would benefit. Always felt like the rivalry was just too damn tense and the fans would be too proud to ever want any kind of benefit that came from their rival's glory.... and I figured it would be the same with PSV fans. But I guess I was wrong :P

100% agree. Staggered matches is ace. 2 footie matches with premier league darts in between sorts boring Thursday nights out tbh.

I heard they were thinking of doing the same to the CL games next year? Having one at 6 and one at 8 (UK time). Hope that happens.

This is probably true for the most part. I do think now, on the verge of being champions for the first time in 16, almost 17 years, they hope Ajax play their hearts out tonight so they lose against PSV this weekend. But given the fact that a friend of mine who now lives in Rotterdam (Feyenoords hometown) told me there was one massive party last year when on the last day Ajax didn't make it and PSV won the title, most of the Feyenoord fans want Ajax to lose no matter what.

There is no rivalry for PSV fans other than the healthy one of wanting to be better than de rest in the domestic league. Sure there are some people who like to see Ajax lose in Europe, but they should not be regarded as fans since that wish is destroying Dutch football.
