He chose money instead o going to the third best league in the world and to a top 5 team...
I mean if it was Germany or china I could see why he wouldn't want to live with nazis or hitler, but Italy? Come on now

now while the domestic title is pretty much a given for juve in italy, the league itself is still the 4th best in europe, maybe in the world and does have some other decent teams that are certainly much stronger than anything in china these days.
also, juve will play champions league every year which IS the highest level of competition in international club football, especially after group stage.

i mean it's not like he hasn't already made more money than he could ever spend reasonably or that he'd play for peanuts at juve...

He'd be playing in the champions league which is technically the pinnacle of European football. Obviously he has the right to make that choice but i wouldn't want a player playing for my team with that attitude. It shows a certain lack of ambition, professionalism and love for the game.

It's not like he couldn't go to china in 3 or 4 years, but he probably won't be getting an offer from juventus again.

they wont pay him the 18 mill a year at the end of his career or whatever hes getting..
If juve really wanted him they should have put together a more attractive offer. He doesnt owe years of his life to them just because they are a better club.
The higher level of competition is something to consider, but doesnt always outweigh absurd amounts of money.

Heinrich again shows his disgust for minorities.
Hessians were mercenaries. This is his job - he chooses to go where he will be most paid.

if coffee shop b offers more wages than coffee shop a where you currently work at Heinrich, will going to coffee shop b make you a mercenary?

e: if this qualifies as "mercenary" the biggest one is Oscar, played for oil club Chelski then scurries off to China at 25 and he starts for Brazil.

I'd imagine it depends on if the OP likes coffee shop A better than upstart coffee shop B that is luring away some of the better employees from his neighborhood shop.

He's following Hulk's exact same steps... Witsel isn't the only (let alone worse) case of football mercenary mentality, so I don't think it's fair to call him the ultimate mercenary. There are far worse cases... even my Mallorca boy Eto'o is worse than Witsel (e: although tbf he did win everything before going on mercenary mode).

This doesn't take away the fact that it's a very disappointing attitude on his side... it's just that we've seen worse.

Juventus was offering him something like 4.5M/year which is somewhat standard for the wage structure within the club.

I would've liked to see him at Juventus but I'm not bothered.

Chinese money isn't scary, but AC Milan and Inter both have Chinese owners, I'm sure that will get interesting soon.

Mercenary? Anelka, hands down, rofl, perhaps even Ibra, considering the way he's been around everywhere.

i agree here, Eto'o went to Anzhi Makhachkala lol wtf is that! and even with all those millions they didnt win the league but at least Eto'o literally won everything before as you said.

personally i dont like seeing in their prime players going to silly leagues but its their call. athletes have a very short window overall to earn their wages - not excusing their high incomes but after theyre done most wont be making anywhere near their peak earnings and probably have absurd overhead.
