Another incident

The ref declared Cristiano's goal was onside (it was), but then he checked the replay and decided it wasn't, and a bit later when the game was resumed someone told him that it was definitely not offside and he went back to his original decision

In theory, video tech is great but as Andi says, if it's up to people to look at it and decide, why even have it? Looking at this event, refs will fuck up no matter what.
I'd rather we keep it AS is, and have the video tech for nothing other than if shit was across the line or not when it comes to goals.

And it takes too long as well. Something like hawkeye technology for goal/sidelines is great, but this just adds chaos and confusion, and stops the game. Imagine a big game like a Clásico, a CL final, a relegation decider, etc... there are so many actions the ref needs to be extra careful about, he'd be pressured to check the video very often and stop the game for 1-2 minutes quite a few times throughout the match.

Because, where do you draw the line? If you checked something that might go against one team, then you're going to have to do it for the other team as well.. if you made a mistake and didn't check it then you're going to get hanged, so checking will always be encouraged. And more and more time will be lost. It's a pain for the people watching it, who want to watch the game play smoothly, and it's also a pain for the players, as 1 minute of inactivity can completely throw them off their mental and physical momentum (several players in the CWC have already complained about this). We already have enough time wasting in football, this just makes it worse...

a strict set of rules is needed obviously and i think nobody wants to video check a throw in

i still dont see a reason though to not at least look at crucial decisions (pen, red card) the ref has called
give a pen in the clasico and the ref will be crowded for like 5 minutes anyway
if there is no whistle just continue the game

It should be as they do with hockey and volleybal. Only videoref when challenged. Or when ref deems it nessecary, but there will be no play during, this is acceptable for everyone, especially when there is a big decision to be made. Furthermore, the play won't be stopped too often because you will have limited challenges. This system works.
