The team is crap and the only German players chosing USA over Germany are the ones that can be 100% sure they'll never even get called by Löw for Germany (and rightfully so, since they're mostly not deserving a call).

He didn't have a clue when he was coaching our national team in 2006, as it was basically Löw doing all the tactical work, while Klinsmann was only kind of a "motivational speaker".
He more than proved he didn't have a clue in his short stint with Bayern Munich, when he managed to get a former double winning team and EL semifinalist down to being eliminated in the quarterfinals of all cups and to ridiculing themselves at home vs. Wolfsburg.
above all löw provided the necessary license, because klinsmann had none at the time
the overall approach in 2006 was klinsmanns though, he experimented with that ultra high pressing approach and new physical training methods
löw changed the team immediately when he was gone
but these wc games were pretty much everything klinsmann ever accomplished as a coach.....
kinda funny though that an even worse coach like löw (who failed miserably at club level) managed to sneak into the seat and became world champion
i still wonder if its him we thank for that cowardly game vs italy back then (2006), because it happened the exact same way when he was headcoach in 2012....shitting his pants basically
klinsmann at bayern? not much to say about that, complete joke and embarrassment, but our officials learned from this horrible misjudgement at least
